About Jessica
Thirty-plus years of watching children, and the grown-ups who love them, get stuck in the same power struggles. Then finding a better way.
Jessica Shields Flowers founded Ripple in 2008 after nearly two decades as director of Vienna Baptist Children's Center in Virginia, and after co-founding Sunbow Preschool back in 1982. She holds an M.Ed. in early childhood education from George Mason University, and she was once co-president of the Northern Virginia Association for the Education of Young Children.
In South Carolina, she became the state's first Conscious Discipline® Certified Instructor, and she's now a Master Certified Trainer and the CD Certified Instructor for SC First Steps 4K. She sits on the board of directors for the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry.
She trained directly with Becky Bailey, the psychologist who created Conscious Discipline, and still calls that work some of the most meaningful of her career.
Outside the classroom
Jessica brings the same steady nerve to a ropes course as she does to a room full of overwhelmed parents. She'll tell you it's the same muscle: stay calm, breathe, take the next step.
